March 11th, 2009 – 1st Attempt at Accounting

This is my reflection for March 11th, 2009. Due to technical difficulties with my blog I was unable to post this yesterday (March 11th) so I am posting it today.

In our first period prep today I went over my lesson plan for Accounting 20 in 3rd period with my coop. She gave me some suggestions and her thoughts on my lesson. After that I made a couple minor changes to my lesson and continued to prepare for the lesson.

During second period we continued on with students presenting their music videos to the class in CAMP 10. The videos were once again very impressive. There was a few students who really surprised me when I saw their videos. It seemed as though a few students weren’t working too hard on the project but they created wonderful final products. Tomorrow will be the last day of presentations and also the last day that Kayla and I will be teaching this class.

Now it was time for me to take my first crack at teaching Accounting 20. It was my first attempt at teaching accounting and unfortunately it didn’t go as well as I would have liked. The students seem to grasp the concept but I felt as though I was a little under prepared in terms of planning exactly how I was going to demonstrate some example questions. Overall the lesson wasn’t too bad but I just didn’t feel too good about it. Tonight I’m doing my best to make sure that my lesson tomorrow goes well and is a little more exciting.

In the afternoon, Kayla and I marked some of the student music videos from our CAMP 10 class. In fifth period I observed Kayla teaching her first lesson in Accounting 10. I thought she did a great job and had excellent classroom management.

My high for the day- Seeing the amazing music videos that students have created in our CAMP 10 class.

My low for the day -My Accounting 20 lesson not going as well as I would have liked.

Something I would change – Better preparation for my Accounting 20 lesson. I am hoping that tomorrow I will be able to rebound from my less than stellar lesson today.
